Summer CSA Share (Our main share)

June 3rd to September 30th, depending on the weather

A CSA Summer Share consists of 10-15 kinds of fresh organically grown fruits, vegetables and herbs delivered to you for 18 weeks.  A share should vary from around 7-12 lbs in the spring to well over 25 lbs in the late summer and fall.  One share generally fills the needs of two people with a vegetarian diet or a family of four with mixed diets.

Registration is still open for future weeks.  We will prorate your share (deduct $22.50 a week) once we receive your registration.

The cost for a CSA share comes out to be around $30 per delivery.  This ends up being a wonderful deal for the amount and quality of organic produce that you will be receiving!!

Frozen Winter Share

I am happy to announce that Ploughshare Farm is bringing back (BY POPULAR DEMAND) the \"Frozen Winter Shares.\"    These shares will include around a 160 packages of blanched and frozen vegetables. There will be 4 deliveries (December, January, February and March) with around 40 packages in each delivery.  40 packages will fill a regular 1 1/9 bushel box.   Each delivery will contain on average 4 packages of each variety of vegetables.  The packages are vacuum sealed in 1/2 pound serving packages (for most items).   Included in the mix will be: basil, beans, beets, brocolli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, sweet corn, eggplant, fennel, kale, melons, peas, peppers, summer squash, chard, tomatoes, turnips, and winter squash. Those that have received these shares in the past know how wonderful it is to have local, organic vegetables in the cold months of winter.  These packages are convenient as well... just open and heat for a meal    These \"Frozen Winter Shares\" are definitely one of the most innovative things (the ultimate \"season extension\") that Ploughshare Farm has done.  We have been one of the first CSA\'s in the nation that has offered such an option and look to your support to make this a success!! 

The price for a Full Frozen Share is $618 and a 1/2 Frozen Share (same variety--half as many packages) is $412.

Fall Storage Share

This share will supply all the fall storage vegetables that your family will need for the months of October, November and December. We will deliver these shares October 15th, November 12th and December 10th.  Each delivery will include 50-75 pounds of produce including potatoes, of carrots, onions, winter squash, cabbage, kale leeks, daikon radishes, beets, celeriac, rutabaga, turnips, brussels sprouts, garlic, and pie pumpkins.

  These shares are a great option for saving money on meals especially during the holiday seasons.  Most of these vegetables keep very well just in a heated garage (just above freezing) or a cool basement.

The price for the fall share is:

$278 for metro members

$231.75 for rural site members

Strawberry Share

 

These berries are grown by Holmes City Berries, a certified organic berry farm near Alexandria.  You will be able to pick the berries up on the same day and at the same place as your regular CSA Share.  The deadline to reserve your strawberry share is June 1st.  The first delivery date for these berries will be about the 2nd or 3rd week in June and goes for 3 weeks.

Harvest for the Hungry Share, 

By contributing to Harvest for the Hungry, you can support Ploughshare Farm, and help us deliver these fresh nutritious foods to the tables of hungry families who cannot often afford the luxiury of fresh, locally-grown produce.  Purchasing a Harvest for the Hungry Share helps lower income families eat healthy and enjoy the farm with you. These monies purchase food from Ploughshare Farm that in turn go directly to low income families that participate. The Mini Share is designed to feed an individual or a couple, or a couple with a small child. The Mini box contains about 50-60% of what the Regular share box contains. It is also an option for those that are just wanting to get a \"taste\" of what it is like to join a CSA.

We have named this option \"Heart of the Season\" because this is prime time for many garden vegetables that most people love and enjoy. During the period of time for these deliveries our fields will be in abudance of items like tomatoes, sweet corn, summer squash, cucumbers, and melons (just to name a few).  These boxes will also include many of the other  greens, herbs, root crops that are in season during this period of time as well.  They will be delivered in a 1 and 1/9 bushel box.

  The \"Heart of the Season\" option will be delivered weekly, July 22nd through September 2nd.  These shares are perfect for those that wish to have fresh, local produce for their summer get-togethers or to have at their summer lake cabin.
